A Blast from the Past, Rarities Edition – Part 8

Rock and roll and opera are two very different musical genres. They generally appeal to completely different audiences; hence, there’s usually little collaboration between the camps.

Still, though rare it happens on occasion. Here’s one such collaboration between U2, Brian Eno – and Luciano Pavarotti. Enjoy.

The song’s backstory can be found here. IMO it’s as interesting as the song itself. The non-concert film in the clip above is from the Bill Carter documentary film of the same name.

  1. Different, and worth the price of admission for that alone. Not going to change into an opera fan, or a U-2 one either for that matter, but I’m glad I gave it a listen.
    Thanks.

  2. Yep, different, but no seegar for me Hondo. Enjoyed the back story, and liked the soft eroticism of Ms Thang, but I still have issues with Bono and the final former ex Mrs 5/77 surely turned me off from Pavarotti and the rest of that crowd. Not your fault and I appreciate you bringing these new exposures to me. Wonder if Bono donated any of the massive amounts of money he made from all of this to help the people caught up in that whole mess? We could all take lessons from what those folks went thru, ’cause we probably facing it ourselves.

My idea of a Rock Opera leans more toward The Who, “Tommy” or “Quadrophenia” and The Moody Blues @ Red Rocks ect.

Bear wid me, not your fault Imma in a funk. I should be about 1/4 of the way into a long anticipated/planned road trip right now, that thanks to the Chinesecommunist Originated Virus Infecting Disease of 2019 (COVID19) has been not only postponed, but in all likely hood, canceled. Sucks to be me right now.

    1. Now that’s more better. “Like” the visuals! And btw…bring me that one…the sultry one…the one with fire in her eyes!
