Former British Royal Marine ­Commando Faces “The Sack” over Wearing Fake Medals

The DailyMailCo.UK posts that a former British Royal Commando was caught wearing fake Iraq and Afghanistan war medals to an awards ceremony.

The chief gun officer at the Civil Nuclear Constabulary could be sacked after he was accused of wearing fake military medals including Iraq and Afghanistan military ­campaign ribbons at an awards ceremony.

Supt Glenn McAleavey, Force Firearms Officer for the Civil Nuclear Constabulary allegedly wore the ribbons on his tunic, despite never having served in either war zone.

The 37-year-old, who is a former Royal Marine ­commando, was reported by another former marine at the event, it is understood.

He is accused of breaching honesty and integrity standards and discreditable conduct.

 McAleavey served in the Royal Marines for four years before leaving in 2007 to become a firearms instructor.

He now oversees the CNC’s £39million training facility at Sellafield, Cumbria.

The article points out the he “is facing the sack” for wearing the medals.  He did not serve in either Afghanistan or Iraq.

  1. Such a weird unnecessary and ridiculous choice to make.

    Why do that? I suspect he had been lying about his service and felt the need to “prove” it by earring wearing the medals.

    But who the hell knows really. Some people just feel a pathological need to be liked, admired, or fit in to a group.

  4. I’m not familiar with British law, but if he goes to prison over this he will also be “facing the sack.”

    1. Commonwealth countries don’t send people to prison over medals even though they have the law too. The UK, like Canada, likes to cuddle with it’s offenders.

      His luck ran out when the new BDE CSM turned out to have been his former 1SG and new what’s up.

      We came to formation for PT on Monday and had a new 1SG just like that….

      He got sent to BDE to run radio watch in the BDE TOC…

    And it looks like he forged a amazingly successful career after his military service.

    Lots to be proud of, but wearing fake medals will tarnish his legacy.
