Maybe he hit his head before the bus accident and it jarred loose those repressed memories of all that trauma and once he started telling his tales he just kept adding to the charade. I’m surprised he is not sporting an MOH for some clandestine work or at least a DSC. Simply amazing or just amazingly stupid.
