On 6 April 2020, at the age of 99, he began to walk laps of his garden in aid of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhscharitiestogether.co.uk\/\">NHS Charities Together<\/a>, with the goal of raising \u00a31,000 by his hundredth birthday. He overshot his mark.<\/p>\n<p>Mason, of course, sends.<\/p>\n<h3>Queen Elizabeth Approves a Knighthood for Captain Tom Moore<\/h3>\n<p><em><strong>The 100-year-old war veteran has raised more than \u00a332 million for NHS charities.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<strong>BY CAROLINE HALLEMANN<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Captain Tom&#8221; Moore, the 100-year-old war veteran who raised more than \u00a332 million (almost $40 million) for NHS charities by walking laps around his garden, is set to receive a knighthood.<\/p>\n<p>Downing Street confirmed the news on Tuesday, with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson calling Moore &#8220;a beacon of light through the fog of coronavirus.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Colonel Tom\u2019s fantastic fundraising broke records, inspired the whole country and provided us all with a beacon of light through the fog of coronavirus,&#8221; Johnson said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On behalf of everyone who has been moved by his incredible story, I want to say a huge thank you. He&#8217;s a true national treasure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Queen Elizabeth has approved the knighthood, and it will be formally announced tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>She also acknowledged Moore with a personalized birthday card. While it&#8217;s become tradition for the Queen to send letters to all British centenarians celebrating birthdays, Moore&#8217;s contained a message specific to his efforts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am so pleased to know that you are celebrating your one hundredth birthday on 30th April, 2020,&#8221; it read. &#8220;I was also most interested to hear of your recent fundraising efforts for NHS Charities Together at this difficult time.
