The Washington Times’ Sara Carter<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0reports this morning that Congressional pressure has been brought to bear on an investigation of Lieutenant General Francis Kearney who has been busy bringing up charges against American warriors\u00c2\u00a0doing their job in the Middle East;<\/p>\n

After months of congressional pressure, the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General has opened an investigation of an Army general who tried to bring murder charges against U.S. troops.<\/p>\n

The investigation, requested by Rep. Walter B. Jones, North Carolina Republican, will probe whether Lt. Gen. Francis H. Kearney III overstepped his bounds and\/or compromised legal proceedings in two Afghanistan incidents, one involving Marines and the other involving two Special Forces soldiers.<\/p>\n

The general’s orders, to redeploy a Marine unit and probe the soldiers, were first reported in The Washington Times in October.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Well, Crotchety Old Bastard<\/a> and\u00c2\u00a0I worked for Kearney when he was a full bird after the Gulf War and he wasn’t exactly a jimdandy commander as I remember. When his involvement in the recent events (in which all of the participants were found to be innocent and within the rules of engagement<\/a>) COB (who wrote about the two SF NCOs’ case here<\/a>, here<\/a>, here<\/a> and here<\/a>) called for an investigation of our old brigade commander and even named him the Oxygen Thief of the Week<\/a> for Oct 1, 2007.<\/p>\n

While I worked for Kearney, I got the distinct impression that he had\u00c2\u00a0a case of warrior\u00c2\u00a0envy – he was commanding a decorated brigade fresh from the battlefield after it returned to\u00c2\u00a0garrison. Apparently, that envy carried over into his assignment to the special warfare arm of the military. I’m perfectly willing to hear how this investigation turns out before I pass judgement.<\/p>\n

In the meantime,\u00c2\u00a0I hope COBDanny enjoys his early Christmas present.<\/p>\n
