Michigan barber Karl Manke has reopened his shop, in direct violation of Governor Whitmer’s Executive Orders. Failure to comply will find him in court. This is similar to Texas salon owner Shelly Luther, and her ordeal at the hands of District Judge Eric Moy\u00e9, who fined her and sentenced her to jail. This arbitrary and unthinking sentence shocked the State to such an extent that the Lt. Governor, Dan Patrick, paid the fine and the Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called for Luther’s “immediate release.” She was. The optics of a single mom being fined and jailed for providing for her children were incredibly bad.<\/p>\n

By: KYLE OLSON<\/strong><\/p>\n A 77-year-old Michigan barber said he won\u2019t stop working \u201cunless he is tasered by the police or Jesus Christ himself walks in\u201d and will continue defying Gov. Gretchen Whitmer\u2019s executive orders.<\/p>\n Karl Manke, owner of Karl Manke\u2019s Barber & Beauty Shop in Owosso, has remained open despite the stay-at-home order.<\/p>\n Manke told ABC 12 he reopened after unemployment benefits were denied three times.<\/p>\n He has been cited for violating the shutdown order, and supporters have stepped up to pay the fines.<\/p>\n On Friday, state police showed up with an order from Whitmer\u2019s administration to close.<\/p>\n \u201cToday Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Robert Gordon acted under the authority granted to him by state law to issue an order that is necessary to correct conditions that pose an imminent threat to the health or lives of people in Michigan,\u201d the department said in a statement to NBC 25.<\/p>\n \u201cThe order requires Karl Manke\u2019s Barbershop in Shiawassee County, which overtly defied Gov. Gretchen Whitmer\u2019s order, to immediately close to the public.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite the legal threats, Manke vowed to stay open as long as he can.<\/p>\n \u201cWhatever way it is, they\u2019re going to have to drag me kicking and screaming out of this building,\u201d he told ABC 12.<\/p>\n \u201cIf the barbershop does not comply with the order, the state will ask a judge in Shiawassee Circuit Court to issue a temporary restraining order,\u201d the department said. \u201cIf such an order is issued and the barbershop owner fails to comply, he can be held in contempt of court.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Manke\u2019s attorney, Bill Amadeo, told The Argus-Press that his client would be seeking a jury trial.
