Ho.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Astronomers using the NASA\/ESA Hubble Space Telescope have captured a striking new photo of the spiral galaxy NGC 4100.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/simbad.u-strasbg.fr\/simbad\/sim-id?Ident=NGC+4100\">NGC 4100<\/a> is located some 67 million light-years away in the constellation of Ursa Major.<\/p>\n<p>Also known as LEDA 38370, UGC 7095 and SDSS J120608.45+493457.7, this spiral galaxy has a diameter of about <a href=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.3847\/0004-6256\/152\/2\/50\">80,000 light-years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>NGC 4100 was discovered by the German-born British astronomer William Herschel on March 9, 1788.<\/p>\n<p>The galaxy belongs to a large gathering of galaxies called the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/M109_Group\">M-109 Group<\/a> (otherwise known as the NGC 3992 group).<\/p>\n<p>It is also a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ursa_Major_Cluster\">Ursa Major Cluster <\/a>, a spiral-rich galaxy cluster in the Virgo Supercluster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis sparkling spiral galaxy looks almost stretched across the sky in this new image from Hubble,\u201d the astronomers said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt boasts a neat spiral structure and swirling arms speckled with the bright blue hue of newly formed stars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike so many of the stunning images of galaxies we enjoy today, this image was captured by Hubble\u2019s Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS),\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis remarkable instrument was installed in 2002, and, with some servicing over the years by intrepid astronauts, is still going strong.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Read the entire article here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sci-news.com\/astronomy\/hubble-spiral-galaxy-ngc-4100-08364.html\">Science News<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This Hubble image shows a spiral galaxy called NGC 4100.
