Deputies: DeLand mother, 76, shoots daughter in self-defense<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nVolusia County deputies said the daughter was repeatedly beating the mother, who warned her to stop, before shooting her.<\/p>\n

A 76-year-old mother shot her daughter in self-defense at her home near DeLand on Thursday afternoon after warning the younger woman to stop beating her, Volusia County deputies said.<\/p>\n

The mother will not be charged with shooting her daughter, Julie Edwards, 54, sheriff\u2019s officials said.<\/p>\n

Julie Edwards is known to deputies. In February she threatened a black deputy who arrested her for drunk driving by saying she would have the Ku Klux Klan burn crosses on the deputy\u2019s property, according to News-Journal reports.<\/p>\n

Paramedics transporting Edwards to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford said the woman had a bullet lodged in her right leg. She was charged with aggravated battery on a person 65 or older.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Police: Man shot and killed after breaking in to San Bernardino residence<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA man suspected of breaking into a San Bernardino residence early Wednesday was shot and killed, the San Bernardino Police Department said.<\/p>\n

Shawn McElroy, 39, of San Bernardino, broke into a residence on the 300 block of S. Stoddard Avenue just before 4 a.m. on Wednesday, police said.<\/p>\n

Officers went to the area after getting a call about a break-in and shooting. Authorities said officers found McElroy with gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

Police said the motive for the shooting is under investigation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

State hospital escapee shot by Wichita County homeowner<\/strong><\/p>\n

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX\/KJTL) \u2014 The Wichita County Sheriff said a grand jury will determine whether a man was justified in shooting another man who escaped from the North Texas State Hospital Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

It happened at 3225 West Rathgaber Road between 9\u20139:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

Sheriff David Duke said Matthew Reyes, 25, noticed a janitor lay keys down on a table and then found the key that let him out of the facility.<\/p>\n

Soon after that, Duke said a woman at the home on Rathgeber Road noticed Reyes swimming in her pool in only his underwear.<\/p>\n

Duke said the woman called 9-1-1, and that\u2019s when Reyes noticed her looking at him out the back window and tried to get into the house.<\/p>\n

Duke said by that time, the woman\u2019s husband arrived home and grabbed a shotgun.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
