Charges Dropped, Prosecutor Releases Gunman Who Shot Man In Street<\/strong><\/p>\n

St. Louis, MO \u2013 A suspect who repeatedly shot a man during a confrontation in the middle of the street was released from custody without being charged, despite the fact that the entire shooting was caught on video (video below).<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s certainly enough to charge the guy,\u201d outraged St. Louis Police Officers Association (POA) President Jeff Roorda told KMOV. \u201cNo one can watch that video and think that guy has to be on the street.\u201d<\/p>\n

The violent altercation occurred at the intersection of Sarah and Lindell at approximately 2:50 p.m. on April 10, KSDK reported.<\/p>\n

A witness managed to capture cell phone footage of the incident from a nearby window, according to KMOV.<\/p>\n

According to the POA, the argument began after a motor vehicle collision.<\/p>\n

The video showed a man in a blue shirt as he yelled at a woman and a man who was wearing a dark-colored shirt.<\/p>\n

A moment later, the man in the dark-colored shirt pulled out a gun and fired it at the man in the blue shirt.<\/p>\n

The woman ran for cover as the gunman fired additional rounds at the man he had already shot, the video showed.<\/p>\n

Bullets hit the victim in the back, shoulder, and stomach, KMOV reported.<\/p>\n

Officers said he was in and out of consciousness prior to being rushed to a local hospital, according to KSDK.<\/p>\n

He is expected to survive his wounds, KMOV reported.<\/p>\n

Roorda said that he and his fellow officers were frustrated to learn that the gunman was released from custody one day after the shooting.<\/p>\n

The unnamed suspect has not been charged.<\/p>\n

But Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner\u2019s office argued that the POA should not have spoken out about the case, and claimed that police investigators said the shooting was \u201cself-defense,\u201d KMOV reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe police brought the case citing self-defense. We have requested further evidence and will evaluate whether or not to issue charges once we have all the information,\u201d Gardner\u2019s office said in a statement. \u201cIt is unfortunate that the police union has inserted themselves in this case when all the facts are not known.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
