The Need for Speed will just have to wait a bit longer. Top Gun: Maverick is officially delayed from its original June release date. It’s been more than three decades since the 1986 film premiered, and some of us could have waited another three. So, sorry Mick. It’ll have to be arcade rides and that worn VHS tape until the new release.<\/p>\n

Simkins<\/strong><\/p>\n Studio heads at Paramount Pictures are feeling the need, the need for social distancing.<\/p>\n On Thursday, actor Tom Cruise confirmed dreaded expectations when he tweeted that \u201cTop Gun: Maverick,\u201d the sequel to the 1986 naval aviation big screen staple, would be pushed back six months from its previously scheduled release date of June 24, 2020.<\/p>\n \u201cI know many of you have waited 34 years,\u201d Cruise tweeted Thursday. \u201cUnfortunately, it will be a little longer. Top Gun: Maverick will fly this December. Stay safe, everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n If audience anticipation for \u201cTop Gun: Maverick\u201d wasn\u2019t already redlining following the release of the film\u2019s trailers, an even longer wait \u2014 coupled a recent interview with Tom Cruise and producer Jerry Bruckheimer in an upcoming May issue of Empire Magazine<\/a>\u2014 should certainly do the trick.<\/p>\n Details revealed in the Empire interview include director Joseph Kosinski\u2019s (\u201cOblivion,\u201d \u201cOnly the Brave\u201d) decision to put IMAX cameras in the cockpit of an F\/A-18 Super Hornet to showcase CGI-free in-flight sequences that feature actors physically in the aircraft bolting through frames of stunning terrain and low altitude.<\/p>\n Trained pilots, of course, were at the helm (off-camera).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Just six more months of Izod-polo-shirts-under-flightsuits and renditions of “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin'” at the O-club bar. Mick. Sorry buddy. I know this is difficult for you.
