One of our ninjas, well, not really but I’ll honor the anonymity, sends us an article on how the coronavirus <\/del> CHICOM Virus is affecting Navy SEAL and SWCC training at Coronado. Seems the extreme training can mimic symptoms of the virus. Go figure. In rescue swimmer school, that every morning condition of being overheated, short of breath and generally beat-to-shit feeling was fixed by a refreshing few hours in the training tank (Some would call it a swimming pool. They are wrong). I can imagine what the SEAL candidates go through. So a Training Time Out has been called.

Naval Special Warfare sailor tests positive for COVID-19<\/del> CHICOM Virus, SEAL training at BUD\/S suspended<\/h3>\n

Naval Special Warfare Center at Naval Base Coronado suspended training for some Navy SEAL and SWCC classes due to the risk coronavirus <\/del> CHICOM Virus poses to trainees in \u201cextremely strenuous, high-risk training,\u201d according to a statement late Thursday from a Naval Special Warfare Command spokeswoman.
\nThe training Navy SEALs endure to earn their coveted gold insignia, or \u201cTridents,\u201d involves long periods without sleep and strenuous exercise along the Silver Strand and in the cold water of the Pacific Ocean. As a result, according to Navy Capt. Tamara Lawrence, a Naval Special Warfare spokeswoman, trainees experience a \u201chigh prevalence\u201d of symptoms similar to COVID-19<\/del> CHICOM Virus.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not uncommon for BUD\/S (Basic Underwater Demolition\/SEAL) students to experience various health issues, especially during evolutions where their physical and mental limits are tested,\u201d Lawrence said in an email. \u201cDue to the high prevalence of respiratory symptoms in BUD\/S classes, almost every student would be pulled from training due to symptoms similar to COVID-19<\/del> CHICOM Virus.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawrence said training has been paused for three of 11 training cohorts in the training pipeline.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision to pause training will reduce risk to students immunocompromised during high risk training such as Hell Week, which could cause more severe outcomes in candidates who might contract COVID-19<\/del> CHICOM Virus,\u201d Lawrence said.<\/p>\n

Training stopped March 16 and is paused for the next eight weeks, the statement says.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
