Maryland man fatally shot by police while asleep in his bedroom<\/h1>\n

A\u00a0Maryland\u00a0man who was shot and killed by a police officer was asleep in his bedroom when police opened fire from outside his house, an attorney for the 21-year-old man\u2019s family said on Friday. The man\u2019s girlfriend was also wounded.<\/p>\n

The Montgomery county police department said in a news release Duncan Socrates Lemp \u201cconfronted\u201d police and was shot by one of the officers early on Thursday.<\/p>\n

But Rene Sandler, an attorney for Lemp\u2019s relatives, said an eyewitness gave a \u201ccompletely contrary\u201d account of the shooting. She said police could have \u201cabsolutely no justification\u201d for shooting Lemp based on what she has heard about the circumstances.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe facts as I understand them from eyewitnesses are incredibly concerning,\u201d she said.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The warrant police obtained to search the Potomac home Lemp shared with his parents and 19-year-old brother does not mention any \u201cimminent threat\u201d to law enforcement or the public, Lemp\u2019s relatives said in a statement released by their lawyers. Nobody in the house that morning had a criminal record, the statement added.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny attempt by the police to shift responsibility on to Duncan or his family, who were sleeping when the police fired shots into their home, is not supported by the facts,\u201d the statement says.<\/p>\n

A police department spokesman did not immediately respond to the statements by the family or their lawyer.<\/p>\n

The department\u2019s news release said tactical unit members were serving a \u201chigh-risk\u201d search warrant around 4.30am when one officer fatally shot Lemp. Police detectives recovered three rifles and two handguns from the home. Lemp was prohibited from possessing firearms, police said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDetectives were following up on a complaint from the public that Lemp, though prohibited, was in possession of firearms,\u201d the release said, without elaborating.<\/p>\n

Sandler said the family believes police fired gunshots, not a flashbang or other projectile, from outside the home, including through Lemp\u2019s bedroom window, while he and his girlfriend were sleeping. Nobody in the home heard any warnings or commands before police opened fire, she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no warrant or other justification that would ever allow for that unless there is an imminent threat, which there was not,\u201d Sandler said.<\/p>\n

The police release said the \u201cfacts and circumstances of the encounter\u201d were still under investigation. Prosecutors from neighboring Howard county will review the evidence at the conclusion of the investigation.<\/p>\n

Lemp was Caucasian, according to Sandler. She did not know the race of the unidentified officer involved because she said the officers were wearing masks. The officer was placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure after police shootings.<\/p>\n

Lemp worked as a software developer and was trying to raise money for a startup company, according to friends and co-workers.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a talented, smart guy. Super nice. Didn\u2019t deserve to get shot,\u201d said Samuel Reid, whose Canadian software company employed Lemp as an independent contractor.<\/p>\n

Tsolmondorj Natsagdorj, 24, of Fairfax, Virginia, said he met Lemp in 2016 and bonded with him over their shared interest in cryptocurrency. They also talked about politics. He described Lemp as a libertarian who frequented the 4chan and Reddit message boards, sites popular with internet trolls.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuncan was a young guy with a bright future as an entrepreneur,\u201d Natsagdorj said. \u201cHe was working on things to change the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

On social media accounts that friends said belonged to him, Lemp\u2019s username was \u201cYungQuant\u201d. On an internet forum called \u201cMy Militia\u201d, someone who identified himself as Duncan Lemp, of Potomac, and posted under the username \u201cyungquant\u201d said he was \u201can active III%\u2019r and looking for local members & recruits\u201d.<\/p>\n

That was an apparent reference to the Three Percenters, a wing of the militia movement. The group\u2019s logo, the Roman numeral III, has become popular with anti-government extremists, according to the Anti-Defamation League.<\/p>\n

On his Instagram account, Lemp recently posted a photograph that depicted two people holding up rifles and included the term \u201cboogaloo\u201d, slang used by militia members and other extremists to describe a future civil war in the US.<\/p>\n

Friends said they never heard Lemp espouse any anti-government rhetoric. Sandler said Lemp was not a part of any anti-government or militia-type group.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was pro-America and supported wholeheartedly all the protections of the constitution,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Sandler said Lemp\u2019s family was traumatized. Their statement said they intended to \u201chold each and every person responsible for his death\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe that the body camera footage and other forensic evidence from this event will support what Duncan\u2019s family already knows, that he was murdered,\u201d the statement said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Any Judge who signs a Warrant for Police to crash through my front door at 04:30 am has effectively signed my Death Warrant.\u00a0 It will not matter to me if they crash through the door screaming Police, FBI, Avon Lady or Jesus Christ.\u00a0 I will do my very best to protect my home and anyone in it.<\/p>\n

Maryland is showing what happens when the Government is allowed to spin out of control.\u00a0 It is reported that no person in that house had a criminal record.\u00a0 They were all asleep at the time of entry. No person in that house was in imminent danger.\u00a0 I can only speculate as to the reason Duncan Lemp was not supposed to have access to weapons.<\/p>\n

We will find out what that reason is in time.\u00a0 I will state now for the record, whatever it was, it was not severe enough for a Judge to Order His Execution.\u00a0 An overzealous Police Department executed this man and it was sanctioned by a Judge who is complicit in his murder.<\/p>\n

If a group of criminals charge through the door of your business or home and one of them shoots you dead,\u00a0 they are all charged with murder.\u00a0 \u00a0All of those involved with the execution of\u00a0 Duncan Lemp should be charged with murder…Starting with the Judge that ordered his execution.<\/p>\n

Google “Duncan Lemp” and read the plethora of titles used to report this.\u00a0 I read his FaceBook pages, LinkedIn, etc.\u00a0 \u00a0I can find nothing that justifies his execution.\u00a0 I find all kinds of spin to dehumanize this man.<\/p>\n

Too many times this pattern of abuse has been played out in our Nation.\u00a0 Never is the Judge held accountable.\u00a0 Think about that.\u00a0 A Lawyer who was given a robe to ensure we are treated in a fair and balanced manner can order your execution in the dark of night.\u00a0 You have no opportunity to object, very little opportunity to defend yourself and the Judge goes about his life with no accountability for having murdered you.\u00a0 Those who participated in your murder will be protected by the government.\u00a0 They will point guns at those who object and use the media to de-humanize anyone that will not comply.<\/p>\n

This case is one of the main reasons why I Will Not Comply with any further restrictions placed upon my Second Amendment Right to protect myself.<\/p>\n
