I appreciate how he manipulated the Democrats and the system when he was in the minority. I appreciate that he ended 50 years of Democrat rule in Congress with his brilliant and successful Contract With America. I appreciate that he was able to reverse the potentially damaging Clinton Administration’s agenda. I appreciate that he’s a towering intellect in the political party that seems chocked full of intellectuals.<\/p>\n
But I don’t trust him. He’s proven that he’s not trustworthy, so there you go. He became what we were fighting against at a critical time and became the symbol of our perceived hypocrisy. Gingrich could no more control his little head than Clinton at a time when we depended on him to do so. If that’s the best we can do, we might as well pack up and leave the country. There’s 48% of the voting public who are more qualified and potentially more honorable than Gingrich in our party. <\/p>\n
The last two times we reached back into our past and dredged up old candidates that we thought deserved to run based solely on their support of the Party, we got the 1996 and 2008 elections. I swallowed my tongue and backed Dole and McCain, but Gingrich – nope…never.
