Man wanted after allegedly firing at Macon homeowner who saw him breaking in, cops say<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA man accused of firing at a shotgun-toting homeowner who surprised him trying to break into his home earlier this week is sought by Bibb County sheriff\u2019s deputies.<\/p>\n

De\u2019Vontae Carswell, 23, of Stockbridge, allegedly fired two shots at the homeowner as he ran away from the residence in the 700 block of Wimbish Road about 4:30 p.m. Monday, according to a sheriff\u2019s office news release.<\/p>\n

After he heard a noise at the back of this residence, the homeowner came outside to investigate armed with a shotgun. He encountered Carswell trying to break into the back of his home and fired a shot in the air. That\u2019s when Carswell allegedly started to flee while firing at the homeowner, the release said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Allen man acquitted in deadly shooting<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nSCOTTSVILLE \u2013 Bolstered by claims that he acted in self-defense, Jackie Mutter was found not guilty Thursday of murder.<\/p>\n

A jury of eight women and four men in Allen Circuit Court deliberated for 3 1\/2 hours at the end of a four-day trial before acquitting Mutter, 65, of Scottsville, in the 2017 shooting of Wendell Jackson, 38, of Scottsville.<\/p>\n

Mutter appeared to show no emotion as Allen Circuit Judge Janet Crocker read the not guilty verdict aloud.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Mutter is remorseful for what really amounts to a tragedy for everybody involved,\u201d Mutter\u2019s attorney, Ken Garrett, said after the trial.<\/p>\n

Jackson\u2019s uncle Dennis Jackson called the verdict a \u201ctravesty of justice\u201d as he left the Allen County Justice Center.<\/p>\n

Mutter testified in his own defense, recalling under questioning from Garrett that he and Brandon \u201cSpeedy\u201d Taylor traveled to Wendell Jackson\u2019s home on Hade Bell Road on Jan. 2, 2017, to collect $300 that Jackson owed him for a pickup truck that Mutter had sold to Jackson.<\/p>\n

The group met in Jackson\u2019s garage, where Mutter recalled talking with Jackson for about 10 to 15 minutes as they stood on opposite sides of the truck\u2019s tailgate.<\/p>\n

Mutter said he was not sure what happened to provoke the gunfire, but he testified that Jackson pulled a handgun from his waistband and began shooting at him, wounding him in the right arm near his shoulder.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
