A sad state of affairs when compliance with Federal Law Enforcement makes the news. But this is Sanctuary State California where such cooperation is rare indeed, nearly unheard of. In fact, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have reportedly arrested two people at a Northern California courthouse, ignoring a recently introduced state law barring immigration agents from making arrests at such facilities.<\/p>\n

So a California Sheriff working with ICE to turn over the jail records is a breath air. From the article:<\/p>\n

A California sheriff is refusing to ignore subpoenas for information from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.<\/p>\n

ICE served the subpoenas on San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore for the jail records of four Mexicans in the U.S. illegally, according to reports.<\/p>\n

Gore issued a statement Thursday announcing that he was complying with the demands.<\/p>\n

\u201cA truly authorized federal administrative subpoena has to be honored,\u201d Gore said, according to NBC 7 San Diego.<\/p>\n

Similar administrative subpoenas have been issued to law enforcement agencies in Denver, Connecticut, New York City and Oregon.<\/p>\n

Gore is the first to comply, ICE spokeswoman Lauren Mack said.<\/p>\n

The subpoenas are among several recent moves by the Trump administration against what it considers \u201csanctuary\u201d jurisdictions, which adopt laws and policies to limit cooperation with immigration authorities.<\/p>\n

In his statement, Gore said a subpoena trumps California\u2019s sanctuary law.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The four Mexicans targeted in the subpoenas were arrested for charges such as sexual assault of a child, robbery, battery, and drug possession, NBC 7 reported.<\/p>\n

Each man, ranging from ages 28 to 42, was arrested in the last few months by the San Diego Police Department, according to the station. Two remain in county jail and two have been released, according to ICE.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Of course the Libs are outraged, dragging out tho old trope that “ICE\u2019s issuance of subpoenas, and Sheriff\u2019s Office\u2019s potential compliance, endanger public safety and community trust.”<\/p>\n

ICE Policies<\/a><\/p>\n

Sanctuary policies aren\u2019t necessary to report crimes without fear of deportation. Section 101(a)(15)(U) of the Immigration and Nationality Act provides legal authority for a non-citizen who reports a qualifying crime to local authorities, and assists, or may be of assistance, in the prosecution of the crime, to become eligible to apply for authorization to remain in the U.S.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
