Poetrooper sends us the sad saga of years of sexual abuse involving the Boy Scouts coming to light. As far as I’m concerned the organization started circling the drain when it went “woke,” a term I find offensive and ignorant, by allowing females (isn’t there a Girl Scouts?) and allowing openly homosexual Scout Masters. Being gay does not make one a pedophile, of course, but the optics are bad and have resulted in declining membership as a result of these self-inflicted wounds. <\/p>\n

And now the organization is filing for Chapter 11 because of the surge of sexual abuse lawsuits. <\/p>\n

WILMINGTON, Del. (Reuters) \u2013 The Boy Scouts of America said on Tuesday it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy amid a flood of lawsuits over allegations of child sexual abuse stretching back decades.<\/p>\n

The bankruptcy is not expected to affect the organization\u2019s programs, which promote self-reliance through outdoor activities such as hiking and camping. The group was already struggling with declining membership and controversy over admitting gay and female members.<\/p>\n

The Boy Scouts, based in Irving, Texas, has said that it sincerely apologizes to anyone harmed, that it believes the accusers and that it encourages victims to come forward.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1910, the organization has been overwhelmed by hundreds of claims after several states, including New York, removed legal hurdles that had barred people from suing over old allegations of child sex abuse.<\/p>\n

The changes to the law coincided with the #MeToo movement and a shift in public opinion that has been more supportive of accusers. The result has been a wave of lawsuits against church leaders, doctors and schools, as well as scouting.<\/p>\n

The Boy Scouts has said in a statement that \u201cwe can live up to our social and moral responsibility to fairly compensate victims\u201d while \u201calso ensuring that we carry out our mission to serve youth, families and local communities through our programs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paul Mones, who represents hundreds of men who claim they were abused as scouts, told Reuters: \u201cThe bankruptcy is being filed as a result of decades of concealing abuse by the Boy Scouts and their adult leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n

The bankruptcy, filed in Delaware, will allow the Boy Scouts to bring all of the lawsuits into one court and try to negotiate a settlement, rather than using the organization\u2019s funds to fight each case in court, which might leave some victims with nothing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So another American institution is tainted with sexual abuse and cover up. Lawsuits are a start, but where are the criminal charges against both those committing the crimes, and those covering them up?<\/p>\n
