By now, you’ve all had your fill of the candidates in the Callahan County Texas election.\u00a0 But wait… there’s more.<\/p>\n

Rick Jowers applied for the position of Jailer back in 2007.\u00a0 The following were obtained by an Open Records Request to Taylor County Texas and provided to us by a concerned citizen of Callahan County.\u00a0 Jowers detailed his U.S. Army experience on one of the pages.<\/p>\n

Here, Jowers states that he was a Specialist 4 (E-4) and an Airborne Ranger, neither of which are supported by his official military records.\u00a0 Also, he lists 1986 as the start of his military service, but his records say 1988.\u00a0 That could have been Delayed Entry Program but his end date that he lists is strange.\u00a0 It is either ’91’ or ‘4\/’ and left off the ending year.<\/p>\n

Also, Jowers said that the reason he left the military is that his “Dad was sick” but when he called one of our investigators – namely, me – and asked that we not post his military records, Jowers said that his sister committed suicide.\u00a0 We later found out that the story of the sister committing suicide was not true.\u00a0 His sister died in 2009.<\/p>\n

A lot of people have been asking how it is that Jowers got employed in Law Enforcement in the state of Texas in the first place since it appears there is a Texas state policy that states that an applicant is ineligible if the discharge was DISHONORABLE or OTHER THAN HONORABLE. People are also asking if the Callahan Sheriff\u2019s Department knew about his OTHER THAN HONORABLE DISCHARGE when he was hired there?\u00a0 Or did Jowers submit other information?<\/p>\n

Jowers seemed quick to forgive himself when he put out a public statement saying that the election was not about his military service anyway.\u00a0 Seemingly putting forth the reasoning that it doesn’t matter and it is much ado about nothing.<\/p>\n

A few others have declared that Jowers has suffered enough and it is time to move on.<\/p>\n

Well, he claimed he was wounded in combat.\u00a0 He made this claim to leverage something of value.\u00a0 This appears to be a federal crime in violation of the Stolen Valor Act.\u00a0 It wasn’t like he burped or farted in a room full of people and said excuse me.\u00a0 He claimed valor that was stolen from those that can no longer speak for themselves – the men and women that never returned home from the battlefield.<\/p>\n
