Man charged with murder after victim kills accomplice during home invasion<\/strong><\/p>\n

DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) – A man is facing a murder charge, even though he was not the one who fired the deadly shot.<\/p>\n

On Jan. 19, 29-year-old Jordan Valdez-Parrish was shot and killed by a homeowner when he and other suspects forced their way into a house in the 1000 block of Franklin St.<\/p>\n

Police were called to a home invasion in progress with shots fired.<\/p>\n

When they got there, a 31-year-old Danville man met them and said several people armed with handguns and wearing ski masks kicked in his door and tried to rob him.<\/p>\n

During the home invasion, the homeowner armed himself with a handgun and fired multiple shots at the intruders.<\/p>\n

Police found one of the suspects lying just inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. That person was Parrish, who later died.<\/p>\n

On Feb. 10, Danville Police arrested 30-year-old Reggie Haywood of Danville. They charged him with first degree murder, home invasion, and armed robbery.<\/p>\n

Police explained the murder charge by saying Parrish’s death was the result of actions taken by the suspects while committing a forcible felony.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nSearch warrants filed in a shooting that was ruled self-defense reveal the moments leading up to the shooting.<\/p>\n

Leonard Evan Loehr, 42, was found dead at a home on Skyland Drive after a reported self-defense shooting Jan. 9, according to previous News Herald articles.<\/p>\n

Sheriff Steve Whisenant told The News Herald in January that Loehr and another man, who was at the home to help him move, had gotten into a struggle for a shotgun in the house when the man pulled his own gun and shot Loehr.<\/p>\n

It originally was reported that only one shot was fired, but Whisenant clarified to The News Herald on Thursday that he meant only one shot was fired that hit Loehr.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe shooter struggled with the deceased over a gun,\u201d Whisenant said Thursday. \u201cThe weapon discharged without striking either party. The shooter then pulled his own weapon and fired one shot, striking and killing the now deceased.\u201d<\/p>\n

The shooter told authorities Loehr contacted him on Facebook Messenger in the early-morning hours of Jan. 9 to ask for help moving out of the home he had been staying at with his girlfriend, according to the search warrants.<\/p>\n

The shooter said he told Loehr he would bring a friend with him to help with moving larger items, like a washer and dryer Loehr wanted moved, the warrants said.<\/p>\n

When the men arrived at the home Loehr was moving out of, he was on the front porch, the shooter said according to the warrants. The shooter said they followed Loehr inside the house and that Loehr and the woman the shooter believed Loehr was dating started arguing.<\/p>\n

Loehr spoke to the shooter and his friend about what needed to be moved, and the friend went down the hallway to start unhooking the washer and dryer Loehr wanted moved, the search warrants said.<\/p>\n

Once the friend started down the hallway, Loehr pulled a shotgun out from under the couch and asked the shooter to hold on to it \u201cbefore he killed someone,\u201d according to the search warrants.<\/p>\n

When the shooter started toward the front door, Loehr started throwing boxes, the shooter told investigators. He said that Loehr and his girlfriend started arguing about Loehr taking the washer and dryer.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when the shooter said Loehr tried to take the shotgun back from him, according to the search warrants. The shooter told investigators he was afraid to let Loehr have the gun because he was afraid Loehr would shoot him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Raleigh coin shop owner recovering after being shot amid shootout with robbers<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nRALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) \u2013 A 71-year-old Raleigh coin shop owner is recovering after being shot in the arm during an armed robbery Tuesday, his family said.<\/p>\n

Robert Siems shot at two armed men who tried to rob Golden Isles Rare Coins and Jewelry on West Peace Street, police said<\/p>\n

Siems\u2019 son said his father was in good spirits Wednesday, and eager to return to work. <\/p>\n

He said his father has run the store since 1999 and has never had an issue before but his dad was not shy about having a firearm inside the store.<\/p>\n

Just before 4:30 p.m., two armed men stormed the store. According to a 911 call, the pair both wore masks.<\/p>\n

Police confirm Siems fired back at the thieves.<\/p>\n

\u201cRobert and I have been friends for a while and we do a lot of business together,\u201d said Reggie Fowler.<\/p>\n

Fowler said he wasn\u2019t surprised his friend fought back to protect his business, but was surprised that the crime happened at such a busy corridor, just off Capital Boulevard and not far from multiple busy construction sites.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would have never thought it, with that much traffic and as much business that goes on in this little section,\u201d said Fowler. \u201cThe dry cleaners normally stayed busy, and Jersey Mike\u2019s stays busy. I was shocked.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the 911 call, the thieves drove off westbound on West Peace Street in a blue sedan.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
