Derek Alldred, a fake Navy SEAL that TAH posted<\/a> about several times, is serving 24 years in federal prison for scamming several women.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Alldred managed to take time out from his busy schedule to make himself available for an interview.\u00a0 In honor of Valentine’s Day, KARE11<\/a> posted an interview Alldred did for Dateline NBC in an effort to get his perspective on his crimes.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI’m not trying to justify my behavior,\u201d Alldred said. \u00a0\u201cMy behavior was\u2026I was a horrible boyfriend, absolutely horrible. \u00a0Destroying someone’s life I think is a bit exaggerated.\u201d<\/p>\n

For two decades, Alldred posed at times as a firefighter, a doctor, a businessman, a lawyer or a Navy Seal, using fake names and identities to meet women online. \u00a0 He had fake uniforms, business websites and social media accounts. \u00a0 Eventually, he\u2019d gain access to the women\u2019s finances, in some cases cleaning out bank accounts, in other cases opening credit cards in their names.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s destroying lives,\u201d said Linda, a Minnesota woman who moved in with Alldred believing he was a retired Navy Seal named Rich Peterson. \u00a0 She showed KARE 11 the military gear he left at her home, like a Silver Star and Purple Heart. \u00a0 She says, unbeknownst to her, he opened new lines of credit in her name cleaning out her retirement accounts. \u00a0It was her life savings.<\/p>\n

She had him arrested but police let him go while they investigated. \u00a0He left the state.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He thought it was an exaggeration to say he ruined lives?<\/p>\n

\n

Alldred told Dateline being on the run for so many years made it hard to keep his scams straight.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s impossible to keep straight, particularly when I was running from the courts or, you know, running from the United States Marshals,\u201d he told Dateline. \u00a0\u201cIt was tough to keep track of who I was saying, you know, where I was and what I was doing and who I was. It’s overwhelming.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dateline NBC will have a full 2 hour special on Alldred\u2019s scams including his ties to Minnesota on March 6th.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n
