(AP Photo/Pat Eaton-Robb)

The families of three female high school athletes have filed a lawsuit in federal court. This lawsuit challenges the decision to allow transgendered athletes to compete directly with females. The article lists males as having a disadvantage; they may have meant that males have a physical advantage.

The actual argument is that biologically, male athletes have an advantage over female athletes. Female athletes, who would normally win, are losing the top positions to biologically male athletes who identify as female.

From Fox News:

Selina Soule, a senior at Glastonbury High School; Chelsea Mitchell, a senior at Canton High School; and Alanna Smith, a sophomore at Danbury High School, announced the lawsuit in a press conference on the steps of the state capitol in Hartford Thursday, the Washington Post reported.

“Our dream is not to come in second or third place, but to win, fair and square,” Mitchell said. “All we’re asking for is a fair chance.”

The three are arguing that competing against biologically male athletes has denied them the chance to win medals and achieve scholarship opportunities.

Alliance Defending Freedom, an American conservative Christian nonprofit, is representing the girls in the federal lawsuit, months after initially filing a related Title IX complaint with the U.S. Department of Education. It remains under investigation by the DOE’s Office for Civil Rights.

Transgendered personnel may identify as the opposite gender from their natural gender. They may be involved with medical procedures to “make them” more “female”. Biologically; however, they’re still males. This gives them an advantage similar to how certain performance enhancers give athletes an advantage over those who don’t use these enhancers.

For their part, the transgendered athletes are arguing in favor of their being able to continue to compete against natural females.

From Fox News, the same article:

“I have faced discrimination in every aspect of my life and I no longer want to remain silent,” Miller said. “I am a girl and I am a runner. Those involved with these drugs/enhancers are either disqualified before the competition or stripped of their competition awards if such use is discovered.

This concept could be applied to transgendered athletes. Like everybody else qualified to do so, transgendered athletes have opportunities to compete in athletics. However, they should have transgendered categories.

Transgendered “women” against other transgendered “women”.
