\nCalifornia prosecutors have dropped a murder charge against a woman accused of stabbing her date to death \u2014 concluding that the woman acted in self-defense in light of troubling evidence found in the deceased’s home.<\/p>\n

Amber Angelovic, 24, was accused of murdering Derek Valentine, 32, in his Costa Mesa home three years ago, according to The Associated Press. But evidence uncovered during the discovery process has indicated that the killing was in self-defense, Orange County prosecutors said Tuesday \u2013 leading to authorities filing to dismiss charges for lack of evidence.<\/p>\n

“The decision to dismiss criminal charges, especially charges that involve the death of a person, is not a decision that is made lightly,” Todd Spitzer, the Orange County district attorney, said according to local news network Patch.com.<\/p>\n

“After a thorough review and careful consideration, there is insufficient evidence, in this case, to prove murder beyond a reasonable doubt,” he continued. “It is for that reason \u2014 and that reason alone \u2014 that I am requested these charges be dismissed.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Man shot, critically wounded by security guard at Garfield Park liquor store<\/strong><\/p>\n

CHICAGO – A man was critically wounded after being shot by a liquor store\u2019s security guard Wednesday in Garfield Park on the West Side.<\/p>\n

The man, 28, got into an argument with the guard about 11:30 p.m. inside Madison Food, Wine and Spirits, 3900 W. Madison St., Chicago police said. When the argument turned physical, the guard shot him in the leg and back.<\/p>\n

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said. The guard was taken in for questioning.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Suspect shot during armed robbery attempt outside gas station<\/strong>

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) \u2013 The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating an attempted armed robbery that ended with the suspect getting shot.<\/p>\n

Officers responded to the Sunoco gas station at 1416 Oxford St. around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.<\/p>\n

According to an FWPD lieutenant at the scene, witnesses told police a group of people walked out of the convenience store and got in a car at one of the pumps.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when a man wearing a mask apparently walked up to the car, pulled out a handgun, and tried to rob them at gunpoint.<\/p>\n

While that was happening, another man with the group walked out of the store and saw what was unfolding. He pulled out a gun and exchanged fire with the robbery suspect.<\/p>\n

The suspect and some of the victims then ran from the scene.<\/p>\n

As police searched the area, they found the suspect about a block away with a handgun and a face mask nearby. Police said he was suffering from a gunshot wound.<\/p>\n

Medics took the injured suspect to a hospital, but doctors determined his injuries were not life-threatening.<\/p>\n

Police also eventually found all of the robbery victims that left the scene. Detectives took them to the police station to interview them about the incident.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
