A Congress critter named Kathy Castor wants Google\/YouTube to demonetize anyone who posts videos that do not agree with her point of view on the alleged \u201cclimate crisis\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0https:\/\/climatecrisis.house.gov\/sites\/climatecrisis.house.gov\/files\/SCCCLetterYouTube.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n

As a corporate entity, YouTube, a subsidiary platform of Google, has the right to decide what to publish\/monetize and what to not assist in paying people. Seems to me that Kathy Castor is plainly violating the 1st<\/sup> Amendment with a personalized demand to Google to make YouTube bar opposing points of view. This is corruption of power at its worst.<\/p>\n

Of course, her demand letter kind of conflicts with this bit of Congressional funding involving geoengineering:<\/p>\n

The downside of this for Kathy Castor is that the other shoe is dropping. She has a degree in political science. In 2018, a real climate science guy, Patrick Michaels explained why 31 out of 32 claims about models for \u2018global warming\u2019 were invalid.\u00a0 Patrick Michaels worked as a senior fellow in environmental studies at the Cato Institute until 2019.\u00a0 https:\/\/wattsupwiththat.com\/2020\/01\/31\/dem-lawmaker-gets-pushback-after-asking-youtube-to-stop-spreading-climate-skepticism\/<\/a><\/p>\n

Michaels experienced a similar incident in September 2019, when Facebook deemed false claims he and another scientist made in a Washington Examiner editorial<\/a>. The tech company eventually removed the label after Michaels argued their points in a letter to CEO Mark Zuckerberg.<\/p>\n

Facebook exempted opinion content and political advocacy organizations from the social media giant\u2019s independent fact-checking efforts in\u00a0October<\/a>\u00a0of that year after the DCNF\u2019s report highlighting Michaels\u2019s complaints. \u2013 WUWT article<\/p>\n

Since there are two or more sides to every story, Rep. Castor is completely out of line in her demand that an opposing point of view be removed from YouTube\/Google. This is a clear violation of the 1st<\/sup> Amendment, regarding freedom of speech. She has the right to state her opinion and concerns. But her demand that Google demonetize YouTube platforms that she disagrees with is a form of extortion on her part. In case you are wondering, Google\/YouTube gets a portion of the ads revenue, which means that demonetizing those channels cuts into their base income.<\/p>\n

All I\u2019m saying is that she has gone too far. Someone needs to put a choke chain on her and remind her that her job is to serve the people in her district, not her own personal wants and needs. Persuading people that \u2018we\u2019re all doomed because climate change!\u2019 is ludicrous enough, but shutting off opposing views is what Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and all those other creatures did. The difference between then and now is that electronic media dominate communications almost everywhere. Anyone who really wants to do so and has the time and skills for it can start a channel of his own.<\/p>\n

Having an opposing point of view is legitimate in any discussion; it’s what real debates are all about, not that eye-poking and hair-pulling crap going on with the idjit “debates” that the Dems keep inflicting on the public.\u00a0 It appears to me that Castor is demanding an illegal action be performed by Google.<\/p>\n

And there’s one other thing: if you don’t like someone else’s opinions, no one is forcing you to read, listen to, or pay any attention to them. It’s that simple.<\/p>\n

I think that it\u2019s time to ask just what Castor is afraid of, and why? Read her demand letter, at the pdf link. Print it out and make other people aware of what she’s up to.
