\nTransgender Woman Found Dead After DC Shootout With Guards, Police Say<\/strong>
\nPrivate security were called to a vacant building in Southeast D.C. for a possible intruder<\/em><\/p>\n

\nPolice now say the person who was found dead inside a vacant building nearly 24 hours after exchanging gunfire with security guards was a transgender woman.<\/p>\n

The incident began when private security guards were called to a building in the 4200 block of Barnaby Road SE for a possible intruder about 9:45 p.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n

As they checked each of the vacant apartments, they found an armed suspect, police said. The suspect and one guard fired their weapons at each other before the suspect took off, police said.<\/p>\n

Police responded and searched the building with a K9 but couldn’t find the person.<\/p>\n

Guards believed the person had left, but on Monday, officers were called back to the building, where a transgender woman was found dead with trauma to the body, Police Chief Peter Newsham said Tuesday. Police initially said the suspect was a man.<\/p>\n

Newsham said police believe the woman is the same person who traded gunfire with the guards.<\/p>\n

Police found a handgun at the scene.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nGUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. \u2014 Guilford County Sheriff’s Deputies say a homeowner shot someone trying to break into his home in the middle of the night.<\/p>\n

It happened at a home on Brightwood Church Road in Gibsonville. Deputies say they got a call around 6:20 a.m. Thursday about a discharged firearm.<\/p>\n

When they got there, they found a person with a gunshot wound down the road, not far from the home. Investigators say the suspect was taken to Moses Cone Hospital with unspecified injuries.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Suspected Robber Trying To Steal Cell Phone Shot By Victim<\/strong><\/p>\n

Police Wednesday were investigating an early morning incident during which one man allegedly attempted to rob another of his cell phone, and was hospitalized after being shot by the attempted robbery victim.<\/p>\n

It happened about 6:30 a.m. at 3100 45th Street in the Swan Canyon neighborhood of City Heights, San Diego Police Department Officer Dino Delimitros said.
\n\u201cAn argument between two men turned violent when one of the men attempted to rob the other of his cell phone,\u201d said Delimitros. \u201cThe robbery victim produced a handgun and shot the other man once in the upper body.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
