Man arrested in Maury County for stolen valor<\/strong><\/p>\n

SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WTVF) \u2014 A Spring Hill man was arrested on stolen valor charges Thursday, Maury County Sheriff’s Department said.<\/p>\n

The charges against 58-year-old Chris Wesley Williams stem from an investigation into a complaint he was claiming to have received military medals and commendations he never received.<\/p>\n

Williams is said to have had Purple Heart car tags on his car while he was never awarded the medal.<\/p>\n

Purple Heart tags are free for life for Purple Heart recipients. Investigators learned Williams had altered his DD-214 discharge paperwork to show he had received the honor, as well as other awards.<\/p>\n

It was also learned Williams was discharged “other than honorable” from the Marine Corps in 1981, after he was found AWOL.<\/p>\n
