Police: FedEx Driver Fatally Shoots Suspect During Armed Robbery In Northeast Philadelphia<\/strong><\/p>\n By Alexandria Hoff Breaking: A FedEx driver was robbed\/shot while making a delivery on the 600 block of Unruh. Police say the driver was armed and exchanged gunfire with the robbery suspect. FedEx driver is stable, Suspect was located and is critical. @CBSPhilly \u2013 more at 10\/11 on @CBSPhilly pic.twitter.com\/0jq9ugjyed<\/em><\/p>\n \u2014 Alexandria Hoff (@AlexandriaHoff) December 18, 2019<\/p>\n It should have been a routine delivery with the 32-year-old FedEx driver dropping off a package to a home in the area, but that\u2019s when police say, an armed gunman approached and robbed the driver, perhaps not anticipating that the FedEx driver was also armed.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was able to tell police that he was making a delivery on the 600 block of Unruh and right when he got done making that delivery, he was approached by at least one male and he was robbed at point of gun,\u201d Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.<\/p>\n Police say the driver was shot once in the abdomen during the robbery. Police say as they were receiving calls about shots fired in the area, the FedEx driver was able to drive himself to a nearby parking lot away from the scene.<\/p>\n He was transported to Einstein Medical Center and is in stable condition.<\/p>\n He told police that after being shot in the stomach, he pulled out his own weapon and returned fire at the suspect.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n 1 \/ 1 \/ 0 Brownsville police identify man killed in morning shooting<\/strong><\/p>\n by Ali Mason \u201cApparently, it was some ongoing situation between the two, and it ended up with this here,\u201d Evans said. \u201cXavier Morris received one gunshot wound to the chest area.\u201d<\/p>\n Evans said officers responded to the home around 9 a.m. Tuesday, and found several people inside the home where the shooting happened.<\/p>\n Police say those witnesses who were in the home were able to identify 32-year-old Michael Shutes, Jr. as the alleged shooter, and told investigators he ran from the house after the shooting.<\/p>\n The gun investigators believe was used in the shooting was found underneath a house during a search of the area.<\/p>\n \u201cWe don\u2019t know the exact caliber yet, may be a smaller caliber, but we\u2019re not sure until the autopsy is done,\u201d Evans said.<\/p>\n Evans said the shooting has been ruled self-defense, and Shutes is not expected to face charges in connection with Morris\u2019 death.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n 1 \/ 0 \/ 0 Armed man confronts, detains porch pirates in St. Matthews<\/strong><\/p>\n By Nick Picht \u201c[They were] right across the street here,” Rockwood said. “[They were] going right across the street.\u201d<\/p>\n He told WAVE 3 News he saw three teenagers pilfering the packages a few doors down.<\/p>\n \u201cThey opened the box, took out the content and threw the packing box down on the ground and took off walking down the street,\u201d Rockwood said.<\/p>\n He said they all made eye contact and the thieves took off.<\/p>\n \u201cI knew that they had taken something, so I said, \u2018well, I\u2019ll go see if I can\u2019t retrieve it,\u2019\u201d Rockwood said.<\/p>\n So he jumped in his car and followed them down the street.<\/p>\n \u201cThey threw down the package and went down the alley right between these houses right here,\u201d Rockwood said.<\/p>\n He said he confronted them on Marquette Drive.<\/p>\n \u201cI showed them I had a weapon and I said get on the ground,” Rockwood said. “Don\u2019t make this any harder than it has to be.\u201d<\/p>\n Rockwood said two of the suspects took off. while another got on the ground. He said he held the teen there until St. Matthews Police came and arrested him. A few hours later, Police Chief Barry Wilkerson said all three suspects were in custody.
