KCPD officer on leave after shooting at intruder while off duty in his own home <\/strong><\/p>\n by: Kathy Quinn KCPD Sgt. Jake Becchina said in a news release that around 2:30 a.m. the officer, who was off duty, used his radio to ask for help at his home.<\/p>\n \u201cHe told officers he had fired shots at an intruder,\u201d Becchina added.<\/p>\n The off-duty officer told responding officers that he was home alone and walked down the stairs at his home when he heard the sounds of an intruder and found a strange man inside, the news release said.<\/p>\n \u201cFearing for his safety, he fired multiple shots at the intruder,\u201d Becchina said in the release. \u201cHe (the intruder) then ran from the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n Police said they are still looking for the intruder. Chris Copeland said officers were sent at 6:50 p.m. to HSHS St. Mary\u2019s Hospital in response to the man having been shot in his right side.<\/p>\n He told police the woman had shot him in front of his home in the 3800 block of East Grand Avenue, Copeland said. Police began their investigation and contacted the 29-year-old woman, who voluntarily came to the Decatur Police Department for questioning.<\/p>\n Copeland said the woman had several injuries to her face from the man battering her while she was inside of her vehicle.
