We here at This Ain’t Hell, because we’re a military blog of sorts, tend to focus on the disingenuous organizations like IAVA and VoteVets and their slavish adherence to Democrat policy. Well it seems that some of the other organizations of the Left are beginning to notice that their fellow orgs are suffering the same malady;

\nI guess these guys are beginning to believe that they’ve been manipulated by MoveOn. Of course, they might have noticed how the Democrats didn’t bother to end the war when they took office after the 2006 midterms. Or how they didn’t bother to impeach President Bush – that the anti-war crowd were just held at arm’s length. They were even convinced to stop their public antics during the electoral process.<\/p>\n

I’d add here that VoteVets falls under the direction of MoveOn.org. John Bruhn, the former Army sergeant turned anti-war activist, left VoteVets a few years back because they seemed to be more pro-Democrat than they were anti-war. I’m just sayin’.<\/p>\n

This David Swanson who wrote the above piece, is a pretty radically Left guy;<\/p>\n

Swanson is Co-Founder of AfterDowningStreet.org, creator of ProsecuteBushCheney.org and Washington Director of Democrats.com, a board member of Progressive Democrats of America, the Backbone Campaign, and Voters for Peace, a convenor of the legislative working group of United for Peace and Justice, and chair of the accountability and prosecution working group of United for Peace and Justice.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I guess he’s just plain fed up with watching donor money going down the tubes at MoveOn and merely supporting a Democrat continuation of Republican foreign policy.<\/p>\n

Swanson was also an advisor for the Kucinich campaign in 2004. And do you remember the proposal for a Department of Peace? Well, Kucinich has submitted a bill (HR 808) to force Obama to create the depatment. You can find the text of the proposed bill at Thomas.LOC.gov, but here’s some pretty wild stuff;

The Secretary shall–<\/p>\n

(1) work proactively and interactively with each branch of the Government on all policy matters relating to conditions of peace;<\/p>\n

(2) serve as a delegate to the National Security Council;<\/p>\n

(3) call on the experience and expertise of the people of the United States and seek participation in the development of policy from private, public, and non-governmental organizations; and<\/p>\n

(4) monitor and analyze causative principles of conflict and make policy recommendations for developing and maintaining peaceful conduct.

\nThe Secretary shall address and offer nonviolent conflict resolution strategies and unarmed civilian peacekeepers<\/strong> to the appropriate relevant parties on issues of human security if such security is threatened by conflict, whether such conflict is geographic, religious, ethnic, racial, or class-based in its origin, derives from economic concerns, or is initiated through disputes concerning scarcity of natural resources (such as water and energy resources), food, trade, or environmental concerns.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

How long before the “unarmed civilian peacekeepers” get armed? The Department of Peace ostensibly will have both a domestic and foreign policy role. The domestic role will be “conflict resolution” and curbing “domestic violence” – although I’m all for curbing domestic violence, I don’t think we need a Federal agency with as yet undefined powers of interceding in domestic disputes in anyone’s home. That’s why we have local police.<\/p>\n
