Unfortunately, photo emulsions deteriorate over time. Prints will stick together and have to be carefully handled to avoid damages. But\u00a0 many of them survived and some 1,650 of PH1 Alf Sedivi&#8217;s photos are in the article. PH1 Sedivi&#8217;s niece, Nickie Lancaster, donated them to the US Naval Institute&#8217;s historical collection. There is a brief showcase of PH1 Sedivi&#8217;s work at the bottom of the article. The last photo in the group is a self-portrait of PH1 Sedivi, who was in <em>Indianapolis&#8217;s<\/em> darkroom processing film when the ship was torpedoed and sank.<\/p>\n<p>1,199 men were aboard the ship. 316 survived.
