Stars and Stripes<\/a> reports this morning that a 67-year-old hippie in England is trying to sue a US airman for injuries she suffered after she scaled a fence at an Air Force base there and was promptly tossed in irons;<\/p>\n

Lindis Percy, co-coordinator for the group Campaign for the Accountability of American Bases, has filed a \u00a31,000 claim against Senior Airman Frank McDonald, whom she alleges caused superficial cuts, swelling and pain to wrists from handcuffs being too tight and other injuries when he detained her at Croughton in February 2006. McDonald is now a staff sergeant at Croughton.<\/p>\n

A criminal case against McDonald was dismissed when U.S. officials filed a certificate of military duty with the court on the airman\u2019s behalf in April 2008. The certificate prevents British courts from assuming jurisdiction in the case under the U.K. Visiting Forces Act of 1952.<\/p>\n

Percy, 67, said she hopes to get some justice from filing the civil claim.<\/p>\n

“This is a claim for monetary damages of \u00a31,000, but more importantly it is bringing this man to account,” Percy said. “It was a disgrace what went on.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

See, here’s the thing, Lindis – you broke the law and Sergeant McDonald was charged with enforcing the law that you broke. Percy has a problem with the US military, yet takes it out on an individual. That’s like Code Pink and IVAW taking out US military recruiting policies on the individual recruiters. And I guess none of those “superficial cuts” resulted from Percy scaling the fence? Maybe she should sue the company that erected the fence for making it so difficult to climb.<\/p>\n
