Nichols would later explain he couldn\u2019t imagine someone whose job it was to guard kids leaving them defenseless.<\/p>\n Nichols knows a thing or two about fidelity to duty. According to an\u00a0article in MV Times<\/a>, he served in the U.S. Army as a Morse Code Specialist during the Korean War era and as a police officer in Tisbury for decades. After his wife died a couple of years ago, Nichols took a job in Tisbury as a crossing guard to stay involved in the community and because, he said, \u201cI love the kids.\u201d<\/p>\n Ironically, it was Nichols\u2019s concern for those kids that caused him to run afoul of Chief Saloio. — article<\/p>\n Not only was this an illegal search and seizure with no due process included, it is similar to the attempt by the mayor of Deerfield, IL, last year to confiscate legally-owned guns from homeowners, using the same methods.\u00a0 She lost her battle because her attempt at seizure was blocked in court. https:\/\/reason.com\/2018\/06\/13\/deerfield-illinois-gun-confiscation-law\/<\/a><\/p>\n The court ruled that since Illinois does not prohibit the ownership of “assault weapons,” no local government may do so.<\/p>\n These attempts to thwart the 2nd Amendment rights of US citizens have resulted in such things as the sanctuary counties in Illinois and other states, a movement which is growing.<\/p>\n It is extremely disturbing that these things are happening, that you can’t even make an offhand remark without someone reporting you as a threat when you are not, or that people who get elected to office decide that they can become petty dictators. Someone should inform these control freaks that if they are afraid someone might shoot them, they truly are\u00a0 not worth the cost of the ammo to do it.<\/em><\/p>\n However, there is some good news: local LEOs are saying that, despite Birdbrain O’Rourke’s ‘hell, yeah, we’re gonna seize your guns’ rhetoric, they will not waste the time or energy to do that.\u00a0 https:\/\/www.thenewamerican.com\/usnews\/item\/33813-police-groups-oppose-beto-s-plan-to-confiscate-guns<\/a><\/p>\n From the article:\u00a0\u00a0Several police and other local law-enforcement organizations have said they would ignore a presidential order from Democratic presidential candidate Beto O\u2019Rourke to send them into private homes to confiscate firearms.<\/p>\n Back in September, O\u2019Rourke responded, \u201cHell, yes,\u201d to a question at a Democratic Party presidential debate about whether he would, as president, take guns away from Americans, including those who have committed no crime.<\/p>\n Then, last week, O\u2019Rourke told MSNBC that he would order \u201claw enforcement to recover\u201d guns from those who defy his buy-back plan. This promise \u2014 that he would be dispatching police officers and sheriffs to confiscate firearms \u2014 did not sit well with many of those representing the officers who would be expected to carry out such an order. – article<\/p>\n Do pay attention to these idiots. They are everywhere. What they want to do does not address the real problem, which is violence by one person toward other people.
