Chairman of the House Committee on Veteran Affairs and California Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/veterans.house.gov\/news\/PRArticle.aspx?NewsID=364\">Bob Filner issued this statement<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Obama Administration\u2019s proposal to charge \u2018third-party\u2019 insurance companies for service-connected medical treatment will not be taken up by the Veterans\u2019 Affairs Committee.  Our budget cannot be balanced on the backs (or legs, or kidneys, or hearts) of our nation\u2019s combat-wounded heroes.  We believe we can achieve the Administration\u2019s budget request (the first in history to actually exceed the recommendation of the veterans\u2019 Independent Budget) in other ways.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Senator from Hawaii and <a href=\"http:\/\/veterans.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm?pageid=12&#038;release_id=11927\">Chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee Daniel Akaka<\/a> is quoted;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>VA\u2019s sacred duty is to care for veterans injured in honorable service to our nation, and the department should not turn to wounded warriors\u2019 private insurance to pay for combat injures.
