You might remember that I wrote about Specialist Kristoffer Walker last month<\/a> when he made a spectacle of himself by not returning to his unit in Iraq and declared the war illegal and immoral. Well, he came around finally<\/a>;<\/p>\n The company commander warned of serious consequences. He advised Walker to return for the unit\u2019s remaining four months.<\/p>\n That changed Walker\u2019s mind. He says he\u2019s still against the war, but the Army has the power to ruin his life.<\/p>\n He says he no longer trusts his military leaders, and adds that soldiers are humans, not sacrificial animals.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n In a Green Bay Press Gazette<\/a> article he took some final swings;<\/p>\n \u201cThe Army has a gun to my head,\u201d Walker said in a written statement. \u201cThey have the authority to level an incredible amount of force against me and can thereby ruin my life. I have been placed in a very dangerous situation. It is not my intention to allow the Army to use their gun and ruin my life.\u201d<\/p>\n Banks said Walker is entitled to his opinion.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery soldier has an opinion, but every soldier has a job to do also,\u201d [Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Nathan]Banks said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n I appreciate that he’s doing the right thing and fulfilling his commitment but he really ought to shut his mouth. The Army is doing him a favor by not allowing him to throw away what was otherwise a fine career. He ought to be a little bit grateful. He ought to take down this website<\/a>, too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
