{"id":86883,"date":"2019-05-11T08:48:45","date_gmt":"2019-05-11T12:48:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=86883"},"modified":"2022-01-13T20:31:53","modified_gmt":"2022-01-14T01:31:53","slug":"heres-how-many-afghan-troops-are-still-awol-in-america-and-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=86883","title":{"rendered":"Here\u2019s how many Afghan troops are still AWOL in America \u2014 and why"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2019\/05\/10\/heres-how-many-afghan-troops-are-still-awol-in-america-and-why\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/resizer\/Nccol25aMnAnTzwHdRwwtY9nRoI=\/600x0\/filters:quality(100)\/arc-anglerfish-arc2-prod-mco.s3.amazonaws.com\/public\/FFSH67UALRDKNKJQTTTJMOZNCA.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I don&#8217;t think we actually need a &#8220;why&#8221; explained to us.\u00a0 POTUS recently provided us with an adequate description for the fecal well of humanity from which they were spawned.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Out of the more than 200\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2018\/04\/24\/afghan-military-trainees-in-the-us-keep-going-awol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Afghan military trainees\u00a0<\/a>who have gone absent without leave in the United States as of February, only a dozen remain at large, immigration officials told Military Times.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">\u201cAs of Feb. 21, 2019, 228 international military students from Afghanistan have been identified as AWOL,&#8221; said Carissa Cutrell, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman. \u201cThese are across the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">\u201cICE\u2019s Counterterrorism and Criminal Exploitation Unit continues to monitor the remaining 12 AWOL cases for future enforcement actions,\u201d Cutrell added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The number of Afghans who have been reported AWOL in the U.S. has increased by 50 percent over the last two years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Between 2005 and 2017, more than 2,500 Afghan military personnel came to the U.S. for training. During that timeframe, 152 Afghans went AWOL, according to a U.S. government watchdog report in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigar.mil\/pdf\/special%20projects\/SIGAR-18-03-SP.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 2017<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The real story should read something like, &#8220;Only 152 Afghans came to their senses while training in the U.S.&#8221;\u00a0 Or words to that effect.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Military Times requested more information from immigration officials after it was announced that the Pentagon ended a training program for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/2017\/07\/20\/afghan-pilots-to-start-training-on-black-hawks-in-early-october\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Afghan pilots<\/a>\u00a0in Fort Worth, Texas, because\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2019\/05\/02\/afghan-pilot-training-ends-after-almost-half-went-awol-in-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">more than half went AWOL<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Let that be a lesson to those of you who make light of Pilots, half of them are not as dumb as they look.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The phenomenon of AWOL foreign military students is neither new, nor limited to Afghan trainees.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">However, Afghans were found to make up nearly half of all foreign military trainees that went AWOL while training in the U.S. since 2005, according to the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Shocked face fatigue.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Company-grade officers \u2014 with the rank of lieutenant or captain \u2014 were the most common trainees to go AWOL, according to the report.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Given the key role company-grade officers play in providing direct leadership to their NCOs and younger enlisted personnel, the trend of defection among them was concerning, as it could negatively impact morale back home, according to SIGAR.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Only half of the leadership is willing to risk a chance at freedom over returning to a life in a vertical dung entrenchment, of course, morale is negatively impacted.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2019\/05\/10\/heres-how-many-afghan-troops-are-still-awol-in-america-and-why\/\">Here\u2019s how many Afghan troops are still AWOL in America \u2014 and why<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t think we actually need a &#8220;why&#8221;
