Juan Guaido, Venezuelan interim president, called on implementing the final push for Nicolas Maduro’s removal. After he appealed to the protesters to join the military in fighting back against Maduro, Soldiers loyal to Guaido took positions. Tear gas was released, and rounds fired.<\/p>\n

Maduro’s Soldiers arrived, released tear gas, then fired rounds. Maduro insists that he has total loyalty from the military. He argued this when a high-ranking officer originally defected. He insists on that now despite additional military members now going to Guaido.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile two of the key international allies of Maduro – Bolivia and Cuba – condemned what they described as a coup attempt by violent rebels.<\/p>\n

Russian President Vladimir Putin, another key ally of Venezuela that has invested billions in the country’s oil industry, was ‘discussing’ the situation with his top security team.<\/p>\n

Protests appeared to be spreading around the country following Guaido’s call, with the leader claiming that people in 24 states had come out to support him.<\/p>\n

It comes after years of mis-management have left the country impoverished, wracked by inflation and food shortages, and following Maduro’s ‘victory’ in elections that many decried as rigged.<\/p>\n

Guaido called on Venezuelans and the military to join him on the streets, as government vowed to put down what it said was an attempted coup.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Maduro’s words can’t hide the defections towards his opposition. These defections are coming from both the military and from the civilian population. Juan Guaido left the airbase and did a rally confident that he had the support of a large percent of the population.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow is May Day, more march and demonstration events are expected.<\/p>\n
