Remember our pal Eric, a Democrat Congress-Critter from California? His claim to fame, other then being Eric Swalwell, was to suggest on a tweet last Autumn, responding to a gun rights enthusiast who said the Democrats’ proposal to confiscate or buy semi-automatic rifles would result in “war” due to resistance from the gun owners. Eric replied by stating “it would be a short war” because “the government has nukes.”<\/p>\n
When called out on this ridiculous statement, he tried to walk it back, claiming the nuclear weapons remark was intended as no more than a joke, and emphasized that he was not warning gun owners about such a response to their resistance to gun confiscation. <\/p>\n
Guy’s a laff riot. Especially so, now that he’s formally launched a presidential bid, and firearm confiscation is a central position. Surprised?<\/p>\n
Hardly. <\/p>\n
Swalwell appeared on the April 14, 2019, airing of CNN\u2019s State of the Union, and Jake Tapper began the segment by reading a May 2018 quote from Swalwell, which said:<\/p>\n
“We should ban possession of military-style semiautomatic weapons, we should buy back such weapons from all who choose to abide by the law, and we should criminally prosecute any who choose to defy it by keeping their weapons.”<\/p>\n
Tapper then asked Swalwell if criminal prosecution means Americans who held on to their guns would go to jail. Swalwell responded, \u201cThey would.\u201d He then added, \u201cBut I also offer them the alternative, which would be to keep them at a hunting club or a shooting range.\u201d\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Swalwell AND Tapper? One wonders how they fit that much ego on one stage. I digress- he further stated:<\/p>\n
In his remarks, he laid out specific agenda items, including a ban and buyback program for assault weapons and universal background checks for all gun purchases.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
One would imagine he’s a big fan of New Zealand’s newly launched buy-back-or-jail program. I don’t think that will fly over here.<\/p>\n
