Mom scares off suspected kidnapper with gun <\/strong><\/p>\n UPDATE<\/span><\/p>\n Kidnapping charges dropped, Zayan released on reduced charges, Mom changes story.<\/strong><\/p>\n By WSAZ News Staff; Andrew Colegrove According to the criminal complaint, a mother was shopping with her daughter in the Old Navy store a little after 6 p.m. when the suspect approached them.<\/p>\n The complaint says the suspect “grabbed the child by the hair and attempted to pull her away,” and then the little girl “dropped to the floor with the male still pulling her away.”<\/p>\n Police say the mother then pulled out a handgun and told the suspect to let go of the child. The mother told police the man then let go of the girl and ran out of the store into the mall.<\/p>\n Police say a short time later, officers and mall security spotted the suspect walking near the food court, where he was taken into custody.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n 0 \/ 1 \/ 0 LPD: Sunday shooting appears to be in self-defense<\/strong><\/p>\n LAUREL, MS (WDAM) – A man is recovering in a hospital after being shot several times Sunday morning in Laurel. According to Laurel police, it appears the shooting was in self-defense.<\/p>\n Police Chief Tommy Cox said the shots were fired around 7 a.m. on Maplewood Drive. That\u2019s where responding officers found a man suffering from several gunshot wounds. The man was rushed to South Central Regional Medical Center and was still there Monday receiving treatment, Cox said.<\/p>\n According to Cox, the shooter surrendered at the Laurel Police Department just a couple hours after the shooting. After interviewing witnesses and examining evidence, Cox said detectives determined the shooting was in self-defense.<\/p>\n The shooter was released after police discussed the incident with the district attorney\u2019s office. Cox said the case will be sent to a grand jury for review.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n 0 \/ 1 \/ 0 2 teens arrested in Lehigh Acres shooting, 1 teen dead Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office arrested Jerry Murassaint, 16, and Lamartine Malbranche, 15, Sunday after they were involved in a transaction that turned into a shooting in Lehigh Acres.<\/p>\n The shooting took place near the intersection of Centennial Boulevard and Cedartree Avenue.<\/p>\n On Sunday, LCSO identified 14-year-old J\u2019Martin Hixon as a suspect killed in the shooting.<\/p>\n Malbranche and Murassaint face charges for Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Robbery with Firearm and Murder while Engaged in Certain Felony Offense. Murassaint also faces a charge for Tampering or Destroying of Evidence.<\/p>\n On Saturday at 7 p.m., deputies responded to the intersection of Cedartee Ave. and Centennial Blvd. in Lehigh Acres in response to the shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found an adult male victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, who was taken to a local hospital.<\/p>\n According to LCSO, Detectives found out the adult victim arranged to meet the buyer of an item he posted online. The adult made contact with two males and during the exchange, one of them pulled a gun and shot the adult. The adult victim also pulled a gun and shot one of the two males, who has been identified as Hixon.<\/p>\n Deputies found Hixon with life-threatening injuries, and he died at the scene.
