We’ve all heard of SOC Gallagher, placed in pretrial confinement at Miramar- he has been there since September 11, 2018. He has been charged with war crimes stemming from a May 3, 2017 incident in which an ISIS fighter was stabbed in the body and neck until he died. Gallagher also faces aggravated assault charges from separate incidents, abuse of drugs, possession of steroids, and obstruction of justice. <\/p>\n
Relatives and lawmakers have protested the SEAL\u2019s confinement. On Capitol Hill, Rep. Ralph Norman, South Carolina Republican, said on Friday that Mr. Trump told him he had intervened.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs I\u2019ve said from the start, I believe Chief Gallagher will soon have a fair and impartial trial,\u201d said Mr. Norman. \u201cBut until proven otherwise, it\u2019s appropriate that he be treated as a decorated soldier who still has the presumption of innocence.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nIn a letter sent earlier in the week to Navy Rear Admiral Yancy Lindsey, 40 members of Congress including Mr. Norman asked that the Pentagon reconsider its decision to place the SEAL in pre-trial confinement \u201cand analyze whether a less severe form of restraint would be appropriate as his trial approaches.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cWe ask you weigh this decision, given the terrible message Chief Gallagher\u2019s confinement sends to our warfighters, that they can be confined behind bars away from their family, legal defense and community for nine months before their day in court,\u201d they wrote Thursday. \u201cTo confine any service member for that duration of time, regardless the authority to do so, sends a chilling message to those who fight for our freedoms.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr. Trump mentioned Mr. Norman in his tweet Saturday, as well as \u201cFox and Friends,\u201d the Fox News television program where the Republican publicly pleaded earlier in the week for reprieve.<\/p>\n

Fox News Sunday reports Eddie Gallagher has indeed be move to less restrictive confinement, allowing him to better prepare his defense before facing an Article 32 hearing and a potential court-martial. <\/p>\n
