For decades the media seemed to have little trouble finding cases of veterans who died of old age in one of their waiting rooms.<\/p>\n

A local veteran is raising concerns about a long wait time for medical help.<\/p>\n

Chris Symons of College Station told KBTX that he waited more than an hour on the phone this week to schedule having his prosthetic leg looked at.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

“I did three years in the Army, one year in Iraq, came back with everything great,” said Symons. “My injuries actually happened after Iraq, but the VA still takes great care of me.”<\/p>\n

On Thursday Symons needed to call a Temple area phone number. He described what happened next:<\/p>\n

“[The VA] has gone above and beyond actually, but yesterday was rare,” said Symons. “I was put on hold–and was put on hold for an hour and 15 minutes.”<\/p>\n

Media staff with the VA in Temple apologized for the wait time.
\nThey told KBTX no veteran should have to wait more than 10 minutes on the phone, and they said even that wait is too long.<\/p>\n

Symons called back Friday on a different number, and after just a few minutes of waiting, was able to set up an appointment in Houston next month.<\/p>\n

Symons says he did not receive an explanation about the previous hold time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Seriously?\u00a0 This is news?\u00a0 Try calling AT & T about your phone bill some day.\u00a0 Little Chrissy should have tried hanging up and calling back.\u00a0 I don’t stay on hold for an hour for any reason.<\/p>\n

I got my\u00a0VA card a few years back just to see how it all worked.\u00a0 I have had excellent care since then.\u00a0 They are not perfect but they are a damn sight better than any civilian health care I have ever had.<\/p>\n

At least Chris didn’t try to pull the “Wounded Veteran” nonsense, he was straight up about his injury not being combat related.\u00a0 I appreciate\u00a0him being honest.<\/p>\n

We are down to making a big deal about a phone call.\u00a0 Seems like progress to me.<\/p>\n
