There may be no more polarizing social issue today than the transgender movement. Voices on the left scream that becoming a \u201cman\u201d or a \u201cwoman\u201d is a choice, while conservatives insist that you can\u2019t actually change your biological sex.<\/p>\n

So who is right? A well-known figure within the LGBT community is speaking out on that issue \u2014 but amazingly, he\u2019s siding with conservatives.<\/p>\n

Jamie Shupe was born a male\u00a0but entered the transgender lifestyle around age 50. He underwent hormone replacement therapy during his transition\u00a0and then became something of a liberal hero when the state of Oregon made a landmark legal decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn Oregon judge has allowed a 52-year-old (Shupe) to change gender identity. Not from male to female, or vice versa. But to a new, third gender,\u201d\u00a0NPR reported<\/a>\u00a0in 2016.<\/p>\n

\u201cJamie Shupe is now legally non-binary \u2014 widely believed to be a first for the United States,\u201d that outlet explained.<\/p>\n
