If a 15 year old\u00a0comes into my house, goes into my bedroom closet, takes a closed container, removes a gun from it, loads the gun and then shots himself … I am supposed to be charged with a crime because his death was preventable if I had locked the case?\u00a0 \u00a0 YHGTBFSM<\/p>\n

The safe storage proposal was drafted in response to the death of 15-year-old Ethan Song, who accidentally shot himself in the head with a handgun owned by his friend’s father in their hometown of Guilford in January 2018.<\/p>\n

The friend’s father had kept his three guns secured with gun locks in a plastic container in his bedroom closet, but the keys to the locks and ammunition also were in the container, police said. Prosecutors said they could not charge the friend’s father under the state’s existing safe gun storage law, because it requires only loaded guns to be safely stored and there was no evidence the guns were stored loaded.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Gun control advocates including Ethan’s mother, Kristin Song, said the new bill, called “Ethan’s Law,” would save lives by requiring all guns \u2014 loaded or unloaded \u2014 to be safely stored. Violating the law would be a felony carrying a prison sentence of one to five years.<\/p>\n

“Ethan’s death was completely preventable, if only the father had securely stored his guns,” Kristin Song wrote in an email to The Associated Press. “That’s why I’m fighting to pass ‘Ethan’s Law,’ to strengthen Connecticut’s safe storage requirements.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Of course they throw in some goofy nonsense as bait to ridicule gun rights supporters as well.<\/p>\n

Another one of the most talked-about bills would require people who are openly carrying firearms to produce their gun permits if their firearms are visible and if police request them. Current law requires people to produce their gun permits for police, but only if police have a “reasonable suspicion of a crime” \u2014 a requirement that would be eliminated in the new bill.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The clowns that want to parade up and down Main Street while carrying their Scary Black Guns make it hard for the rest of us to have nice things.\u00a0 I have no issue producing an ID to any LEO at any time.\u00a0 I am always armed, I avoid going to places where I can not be armed.\u00a0 I stay out of states that make it impossible for me to defend myself and others.<\/p>\n

I do not walk the street with a\u00a0.338 Lapua Magnum…but if I did, I would expect to be stopped and asked a few questions.<\/p>\n
