But he got caught up talking to his roommate for a few minutes as the door remained open.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen all of a sudden this man intrudes,\u201d Hernandez said.<\/p>\n<p>At that moment, Hernandez became a key part of a dramatic struggle by Dallas officers to catch 26-year-old Austin David Reed after a nearly two-hour pursuit, which began with an apparent hostage situation at a motel.<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez \u2014 a Navy veteran and former boxer \u2014 fought for his life before police ended the incident by shooting Reed, who they say had a knife.<\/p>\n<p>The ordeal began at a motel in the 9500 block of Forest Lane, hours before Hernandez got home. J.D.
