CAMP PENDLETON, CA\u00a0\u2014 Troops running and singing cadence is a familiar scene at bases across the world, but one Marine says the cadence really needs to end.<\/p>\n

Corporal Jason Andreesen is assigned to the famed \u2018Dark Horse\u2019 battalion of 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery morning I have to wake up, put on my silkies and glowbelt and think \u2018Well, here we go again\u2019,\u201d says Andreesen.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

His reluctance for physical training (PT) comes not from exertion, but from the cadences that his squad mates usually choose. One in particular is referred to as the \u201cVegetable Cadence<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, I thought it was kind of funny back when I first heard it,\u201d says Andreesen, \u201cbut that was before I met Sarah. She\u2019s my dream girl.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sarah is Andreesen\u2019s wife of three years \u2014 who miraculously survived a car crash last year despite losing all her arms and legs and putting her into a coma.<\/p>\n

As he runs along with his squad, Andreesen\u00a0wearily waits for it to come up. Sgt. Wilton Chambers leads the cadence, shouting \u201cLeft right ley-o\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

The Corporal happily repeats it back with the rest of his squad, but then his fears are realized at the Sergeant\u2019s next verse.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy girl\u2019s a vegetable, she lives in a hospital \u2026 but I would do anything \u2026 to keep that bitch alive, yeah!\u201d<\/p>\n

Corporal Andreesen says that \u201cthe first half isn\u2019t terrible\u201d, but he repeats the rest back amid tears and sweat.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s got her own TV and it\u2019s called an EKG!\u201d barks Sergeant Chambers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean seriously. This is fucked up. They all know about Sarah,\u201d says Andreesen. \u201cYeah, so she has no arms and legs but I mean, I\u2019ve never pulled the plug to watch her choke. I love her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other Marines in the squad say that they\u2019ve found the \u201cchink in his armor\u201d and just continue to attack it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re in the infantry. We talk shit. When we find weakness in someone, we do not stop,\u201d says Lance Corporal Miguel Rodriguez. \u201cIt\u2019s too much fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI really just wish that we could sing a much better cadence that everyone would love,\u201d says Andreesen after he again repeats that he\u2019d \u2018do anything to keep that bitch alive\u2019. \u201cI recommended the \u2018cocksucker, motherfucker, eat a bag of shit\u2019 cadence, but the\u00a0two gay guys<\/a> in the platoon got all pissy about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others in the squad say that Andreesen is getting \u201cbutthurt for no reason.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really see the problem,\u201d says Corporal Evan Winters. \u201cI mean, Lance Corporal Troy fucks pumpkins and he seems just fine with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

After their run returned to San Mateo, the squad continued to bicker about whether pumpkins were vegetables or fruit.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
