The Chatham County Police Department is asking residents to provide the serial numbers to firearms in order to help police find them if they are stolen.<\/h2>\n

WTGS\u00a0reports\u00a0that numerous guns are stolen in the county, 90 have been stolen since February 2018 alone.<\/p>\n

CCPD Capt. Daniel Flood said, \u201cUnfortunately, we\u2019ve seen a big increase in the number of guns that have been stolen from unlocked cars. From burglaries and that type of thing.\u201d He added, \u201cAbout a third of them don\u2019t have serial numbers. [The gun owners] don\u2019t record the serial numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Flood is asking county residents to provide their serial numbers via a database so that if their guns are stolen police will have the information. He says that will enable police to find the gun if it is taken to a pawn shop in another county or state too.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The serial number website is called ReportIt and Flood says if your gun is stolen you can tell police, \u201cHey my gun is logged into ReportIt with Leads Online.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/section>\n<\/blockquote>\n

What a great idea, you people should scurry over to ReportIt<\/a>\u00a0and enter the serial numbers to all of your weapons.\u00a0 When you get done with that drop off\u00a0 a DNA and urine sample at your local crime lab so they can confirm you have nothing to do with any crime.<\/p>\n

I would join you in this fine effort but if I\u00a0 had ever owned a gun of any kind I am sure it was lost during a recent boating accident along with what little responsibly purchased ammo I might have had.\u00a0 Gosh, I sure wish I had entered all that data into this database of theirs.\u00a0 Citizen, support your local government.<\/p>\n
