A new charity that pays for and helps organize reunions for combat veterans has received a $50,000 grant, the highest honor in this year\u2019s\u00a0Newman\u2019s Own Awards\u00a0<\/a>competition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe prevailing narrative about my veteran generation is wrong. We are not broken, we don\u2019t need to be fixed, we don\u2019t need over-engineered solutions. We just need each other,\u201d said Marine Corps veteran James Ferguson, founder of the Warrior Reunion Foundation of Cockeysville, Maryland, in accepting the award at the Pentagon Friday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Five organizations were awarded a combined total of $200,000 in a ceremony Friday at the Pentagon.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The organizations\u2019 work \u201ctranscends the 50 people, 1,000 people, 100 people\u201d they touch in their work, said Joint Chiefs Chairman Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford. \u201cIt\u2019s sending a message that you value our veterans,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
