Lacy Klenklen Courtesy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A Kansas hunter shot what may be a state record bull elk in northeast Kansas, and it was the first elk he\u2019d ever seen outside of captivity.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Stories of a rogue bull elk showing up the past two Septembers at the same Jefferson County property where DJ Klenklen had just landed permission to hunt drove his imagination wild.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIf I see this thing, I\u2019m buying a tag,\u201d Klenklen, 28, said he told his wife during the summer months leading up to the season.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The landowner had told him about the elk and, knowing Klenklen was an avid whitetail deer hunter, asked him if he wanted to hunt it. But before he bought a tag, he wanted to make sure it was there.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/elk-n-wif_fitted.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-81958\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/elk-n-wif_fitted-500x281.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/elk-n-wif_fitted-500x281.jpeg 500w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/elk-n-wif_fitted-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/elk-n-wif_fitted.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe\u2019re thinking of packing up, it\u2019s about 6:45, and he bugles, man, and it made the hairs stand up all over my body,\u201d Klenklen said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI heard him start coming through those trees and he was just coming like a freight train. I\u2019ll never forget the sound of him coming through those trees.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cHe\u2019s making this noise \u2014 I don\u2019t even want to try to replicate it, but it\u2019s like a drum. And it\u2019s really deep and short.
