(Bryan Ilyankoff\/Army)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2018\/09\/21\/the-army-is-supposed-to-be-growing-but-this-year-it-didnt-at-all\/\">Army Times article<\/a>, recruiting is not going so well.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">A year ago, Army officials were touting a plan to\u00a0increase the force\u00a0by 7,500 soldiers in fiscal year 2019. That didn\u2019t happen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Today\u2019s active duty\u00a0end strength\u00a0stands at 476,000, the head of personnel management at Army headquarters told reporters on Friday. If that number sounds familiar, it\u2019s because it\u2019s last year\u2019send strength goal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">This year\u2019s end strength target was supposed to be 483.500 in the active Army.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did miss our accessions target, and we\u2019re going to miss end strength,\u201d Maj. Gen. Joseph Calloway said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The Army started out fiscal year 2018 with an ambitious task: To bring in 80,000 new active duty soldiers, about 11,000 more than they netted the previous year, when the service made a 180-degree turn from a drawdown to a sharp build-up.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>They left some recruits on the table?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">\u201cWe honestly left some potential recruits on the table who completely met standards,\u201d Calloway said ? 1,500 to 1,800, he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Still, the service issued about 7,600 waivers for recruits who had never served before but who, on paper, had a disqualifying medical condition or conduct issue. As of the end of August, that was 1,660 for behavioral or legal issues and 5,062 for physical issues like eyesight, hearing and so on.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The recruiting shortages came mostly in military occupational specialties that are already under-strength, like field artillery, air defense artillery, intelligence and satellite communications, he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Deaf, Dumb, and Blind with an attitude problem &#8230; but do they respect gender pronouns?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Army is still offering up to $40,000 in bonuses, two-year enlistments and student loan repayment to get people in the door, but, Calloway said, the service is counting on some other metrics to help it get to that number this year.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>See, this is where they are going wrong.\u00a0 There are too many zeros in the numbers they are using.\u00a0 It just confuses young recruits.\u00a0 They need to go back to a simple less confusing time like this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Basepay.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-81928\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Basepay-500x239.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Basepay-500x239.png 500w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Basepay-300x143.png 300w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Basepay-768x367.png 768w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Basepay.png 978w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I got a nice room with 60 other new friends, a meal card to eat and during my second enlistment, they put AC in the barracks.\u00a0 \u00a0We didn&#8217;t need any stinking $40,000 in bonuses.\u00a0 \u00a0I checked into Camp Lejeune the first time and was going through the chow line and thought I had it made.\u00a0 The kinda screened in windows and large slow moving fan blades gave the place that feel of comfort I was longing for.\u00a0 When I got to the desserts in the chow line they had bread pudding just like Ma made when she was home on work release.\u00a0 It looked so good, but when I picked up a plate the damn raisins all flew away.\u00a0 \u00a0No worries, I had to figure out what to do with all that $350.\u00a0 Old timers\u00a0used to tell me the entire Corps fought the Korean war with less money than I was being paid.\u00a0 I felt guilty.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe\u2019re tossing away some of the old methods,\u201d said Marshall Williams, the deputy assistant secretary of the Army for manpower and reserve affairs. \u201cThat person we\u2019re going after today is so completely different.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You got that right skippy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to this Army Times article, recruiting is not going so well.
