\n\n\nSecretary of Defense Jim Mattis didn\u2019t favorably receive former Press Secretary Sean Spicer\u2019s repeated requests to get the retired Marine Corps general to appear on numerous talk shows, according to an\u00a0excerpt\u00a0from Bob Woodward\u2019s upcoming book, \u201cFear: Trump in the White House<\/a>.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n\nAccording to one passage in the book, an exasperated Mattis, having answered \u201cno\u201d a number of times already, lashed out at Spicer, who is an\u00a0officer in the Navy Reserve.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n\n\u201cSean, I\u2019ve killed people for a living,” the secretary of defense said. “If you call me again, I\u2019m going to f–king send you to Afghanistan. Are we clear?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n\nTo date, Mattis has appeared only once on a network television show, when he added to his long list of Mattisisms after\u00a0\u201cFace of the Nation”\u00a0host John Dickerson asked what tumultuous world affairs keep the retired general awake at night.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n\n\u201cNothing. I keep other people awake at night,\u201d he quickly countered.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n\n\nThat statement was refuted by Mattis on Tuesday, when the secretary of defense called Woodward\u2019s book a work of \u201cfiction\u201d and \u201ca product of someone\u2019s rich imagination.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n\n\u201cWhile I generally enjoy reading fiction, this is a uniquely Washington brand of literature, and his anonymous sources do not lend credibility,” Mattis said in a statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n\nWoodward based \u201cFear\u201d on hundreds of hours of interviews with Trump administration staffers with firsthand experience conducted on \u201cdeep background,” according to the\u00a0Washington Post.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
