Get ready for a rough, snowy winter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2018\/08\/30\/winter-will-be-teeth-chattering-cold-have-plenty-snow-farmers-almanac-claims.html\">Fox News<\/a> is reporting the Farmer\u2019s Almanac is predicting a \u201ccolder-than-normal\u201d winter from the Continental Divide on eastward, with bitter cold arriving in mid-February in the Northeast, Great Lakes, and even into the Southeast.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> \u201cContrary to the stories storming the web, our time-tested, long-range formula is pointing toward a very long, cold, and snow-filled winter,\u201d editor Peter Geiger said in a statement on the company\u2019s website. \u201cWe stand by our forecast and formula, which accurately predicted the many storms last winter, as well as this summer\u2019s steamy, hot conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Included in the frigid outlook is above-average snowfall expected for the Great Lakes and New England, with some snow expected to arrive in the Mid-Atlantic and New England by December.<\/p>\n<p>As to when the cold may end, the Farmers\u2019 Almanac says that a stormy March could feature a \u201cpotent East Coast storm\u201d that could keep snow on the ground into spring.<\/p>\n<p>The Farmers\u2019 Almanac says it bases its long-range forecast \u201con a mathematical and astronomical formula developed in 1818.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> It\u2019s not to be confused with the rival Old Farmers\u2019 Almanac, billed as the oldest periodical in North America, which also issues seasonal weather forecasts.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for a milder winter ahead, Old Farmers\u2019 Almanac is calling for \u201cabove-normal temperatures almost everywhere in the United States,\u201d in addition to more rain instead of snow.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I miss the crew pre-flight briefs, where the weather guesser would make dire predictions of \u201cImpacted thunder cells along the cold front\u2019s boundary with moderate to severe turbulence from 5000 to 30,000 ft. Have a nice flight!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now what\u2019s winter going to look like? Ask a weather guesser- there\u2019s a 50% chance he\u2019ll get it right.
