As to when the cold may end, the Farmers\u2019 Almanac says that a stormy March could feature a \u201cpotent East Coast storm\u201d that could keep snow on the ground into spring.<\/p>\n
The Farmers\u2019 Almanac says it bases its long-range forecast \u201con a mathematical and astronomical formula developed in 1818.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not to be confused with the rival Old Farmers\u2019 Almanac, billed as the oldest periodical in North America, which also issues seasonal weather forecasts.<\/p>\n
If you\u2019re looking for a milder winter ahead, Old Farmers\u2019 Almanac is calling for \u201cabove-normal temperatures almost everywhere in the United States,\u201d in addition to more rain instead of snow.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
