{"id":81033,"date":"2018-08-07T16:27:48","date_gmt":"2018-08-07T20:27:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=81033"},"modified":"2018-08-08T17:25:23","modified_gmt":"2018-08-08T21:25:23","slug":"navy-helicopter-crewman-killed-in-north-island-accident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=81033","title":{"rendered":"Navy helicopter crewman killed in North Island accident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/HH-60H-Seahawk-1800-e1533763454151.jpg\" alt=\"hh60 seahawk\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/your-navy\/2018\/08\/07\/navy-helicopter-crewman-killed-in-north-island-accident\/\">The Navy Times<\/a> reports the sad news of a helicopter crewman killed last week in a fuel tank accident at Naval Air Station North Island in California.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Naval Helicopter Aircrewman 1st Class Jonathan Richard Clement was declared dead on July 31 at the UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest, a day after an auxiliary fuel tank detached from an HH-60H Seahawk helicopter and struck him and a fellow petty officer.<\/p>\n<p>The other sailor was treated and released from the hospital after suffering what officials at Naval Air Forces described as \u201cminor injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both sailors were assigned to the \u201cFirehawks\u201d of North Island-based Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 85.<\/p>\n<p>The Naval Safety Center reported the mishap on the morning of Aug. 6, indicating only that the helicopter crew had been conducting \u201chot seat\u201d training at the sprawling air base when the accident occurred.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There but for the grace of God, go I. Hot crew swaps and hot refueling were a routine event back in my Helo days. If the ship was so configured, we didn\u2019t even land for gas, a HIFR (Helo In-Flight Refueling) was performed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/1024px-SH-2F-HIFR-e1533673218321.jpg\" alt=\"hifr\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Fair winds and following seas, AW1 Clement.
