It&#8217;s gone viral, of course.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is what happens when a government believes people are \u201cillegal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kids in cages. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/OAnvr9cl3P\">pic.twitter.com\/OAnvr9cl3P<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jose Antonio Vargas (@joseiswriting) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/joseiswriting\/status\/1006397160622055429?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 12, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snopes.com\/fact-check\/toddler-cage-photo\/\">Snopes<\/a>, it was taken at a protest in Dallas earlier this month;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>However, as it turned out, the photograph was taken on 10 June 2018, but it did not show a child confined by immigration authorities to a cage. Rather, it was snapped during a protest staged in front of Dallas City Hall to call attention to the Trump administration\u2019s practice of separating families and confining undocumented children. According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/migrant-children-in-cages-2014-photos-explained-2018-5\">Business Insider<\/a>, Obama Adminstration officials have been scrambling to explain the photos;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> Jon Favreau, who worked as a speechwriter for former President Barack Obama, tweeted, &#8220;This is happening right now, and the only debate that matters is how we force our government to get these kids back to their families as fast as humanly possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Favreau said Tuesday he later deleted the tweet after social media users pointed out that the photos were taken during the Obama administration. But by that point, critics had already rushed to accuse him of concealing Obama&#8217;s own harsh immigration tactics while condemning Trump&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Favreau said in a series of tweets that he made a &#8220;mistake&#8221; by not checking the date of the photos before sharing them on Twitter.
